Lexington, KY voted #1!

Yes, we are #1...........on the Asthma and Allergy foundation of America's list of the 10 worst cities to live in for allergy sufferers. There are plenty of natural remedies for those of us who suffer and don't want to take tons of pills everyday.

The best treatment is to use nettles and elderflowers in the months before allergy season hits. Nettles have antihistimine properties and elder tones the mucous membranes. I recommend taking these an extract. If you actually prefer taking pills, most health food stores and even pharmacies should have capsules of freeze dried nettles. German chamomile is also helpful and makes a delicious tea. Steep your tea for 20 minutes and put a saucer over the teacup so the volatile oils don't escape.

If your eyes and nose are really runny and watery, try some eyebright. But don't use it if you are stuffy and not having any drainage or you will make it worse.

Inhaling essential oils can bring immediate relief. For hayfever try sniffing Roman chamomile straight from the bottle. If you need relief from congestion you can try eucalyptus, peppermint, myrtle, rosemary, lavender, pine, or cypress.

I also recommend nasal rinsing-try a netti pot. It's a little freaky but you get used to it and it REALLY helps.

Check out my favorite links to try any of these remedies. Of course, I can be contacted through either of my stores.

P.S. Spring is not fully here yet. Sunday the high is going to be 72 and Monday the high is going to be 39. Yuck!
